All Binghamton University undergraduate
schools use a system that incorporates the numbers 100-499. While each school
may define the tiers more specifically, all schools define 100-299 as lower
division courses and 300-499 as upper division courses.
Typically, special topics courses have the 80’s as their last two digits
and the 90’s at each level are reserved for:
91 Teaching practicum
95 Internship
97 Independent study
98/99 Honors/thesis

500-589 Masters level courses and Seminars
590 Courses pertaining to
592-596 Internships, methodologies
598 Research tools, etc.
591 College teaching of the Discipline
597 Independent study
599 Master’s thesis
600-696 Doctoral level courses and Seminars
698 Pre-dissertation Research
699 Dissertation
700 Continuous Registration
707 Research Skills
Course sections are numbered according
to the following system :
90-99 Lecture section
01-49 Discussion section
50-89 Activity/Lab section
Courses are set up to have a lecture, discussion or lab only OR a combination of lecture, discussion, and lab. You must enroll in all components of a course.
You cannot
register for Independent Study or Internship courses at the BUSI Centers. You need to contact the specific academic department
to register for these courses.
The final exam schedule is available online
at the BUSI Web Center. The
final exam schedule will be updated periodically throughout the semester. Since it is possible that exam
dates, times, or locations may change, please confirm your exam time and location
on the BUSI system after the drop deadline for the semester.
Information about internship placements
and the application process is available at the Off Campus College (OCC) Office. Inquire at OCC for details so you can participate
in a future semester.
